The John D. Cronin Cancer Center at Lexington Clinic is dedicated to providing the highest quality, comprehensive cancer care in one convenient location. The Center includes Medical, Radiation, and Surgical Oncology and is located on the first floor of the Saint Joseph Office Park, Building A. The John D. Cronin Cancer Center offers several treatment options and state-of-the-art technologies used in diagnosing and treating cancer. A cutting edge new linear accelerator delivers the latest in three-dimensional and intensity-modulated radiation therapy treatments to enable custom prescribed dosages to specific areas while protecting normal tissues.
- IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy) – produces a dose of radiation that tightly conforms to the 3 dimensional shape of the target by varying the both the beam shape and intensity across the shaped fields. This allows your physician to sculpt the dose to more effectively treat the tumor and protect adjacent normal tissues and critical organs.
- IGRT (Image Guided Radiation Therapy) – a form of adaptive radiation therapy which utilizes imaging technology to guide an action that modifies the treatment in reference to the intended target. Due to organ movement within the body, the target for treatment can change based upon that movement. This target may be adjusted before treatment to insure that the correct site is treated and that critical structures are spared.
- HDR and intraoperative HDR – high-intensity radioactive source is implanted using a robotic device for treatment or as a part of an operative procedure.
- Stereotactic radiosurgery – finely focused beam radiation used primarily for brain tumors, a series of treatment over several days.
- Prostate implants – radioactive seeds implanted in the prostate for prostate cancer.
- CT simulation – In-house, networked CT scanning system which maximizes accuracy of treatment area by allowing 3-dimensional viewing of patient, coupled with 3-dimensional treatment planning and delivery.
The Center consists of highly experienced physicians and technical staff members. The technical staff in radiation therapy has an average of 15 years experience with the Lexington Clinic and consists of Physicists, Dosimetrists, and Certified Radiation Therapists. There is also a full support staff including a social worker to counsel patients. Also available on-site is the John Lindgren Patient and Family Resource Room, which provides literature and educational materials on cancer related topics and includes a computer help center, video tape library, book library, pamphlets, support group information, and Internet access that provides links to cancer care sites.
